Registration

1. Do I have to register my NOOK®?

Officially, no, but we strongly recommend it. If you do not register your NOOK, you will not be able to access any NOOK content or features, such as the NOOK Store®. You will also not be able to redeem a $5 coupon available to Samsung Galaxy® Tab 4 NOOK® customers who register their devices.

2. What is a NOOK account?

A NOOK account, with a default credit card, lets you shop for NOOK Books, magazines, and newspapers. Having a NOOK account also allows you to synchronize your Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 NOOK with other NOOK devices and other NOOK Applications you might have, such as NOOK eReader software applications installed on your iPad®, iPod touch®, Android Tablets, PC, Mac or Smartphone (iPhone® or Android phone). You can create a NOOK account by providing an email address and password on NOOK.com. You can also create one directly on your NOOK during the registration process.

Your NOOK account is ready for use once you have set up the following:

-An email address
-A default payment method
-A valid expiration date for the payment method
-A current U.S. billing address

If you have any questions about setting up an account, please call Customer Service at 1-800-THE-BOOK (1-800-843-2665).

3. How do I register my NOOK?

When you first turn on your NOOK, you will be guided through a set-up process that includes accepting the Samsung End User License Agreement (EULA), connecting to Wi-Fi® and other set-up steps.

You will also be offered the opportunity to sign into or sign up for accounts from Google™, Samsung, and Dropbox™. These accounts are optional. If you do not set up Google, Samsung, or Dropbox accounts when you first get your NOOK, you can set them up at any time in the future.

The Google account gives you access to the Google Play™ Store and all other Google applications. Signing up with Google also allows your NOOK to receive and apply NOOK software updates automatically. The Google account is the same as your existing Gmail™ account.

Your NOOK includes a free 2-year subscription to a 50GB Dropbox account for storing photos, videos, and other types of files.

To access your NOOK Library® and to browse, purchase, download, and open NOOK content such as NOOK Books®, newspapers, magazines, catalogs, and apps, you first must register your device with a NOOK account. Your NOOK account is the same as your BN.com account. To set up your NOOK, follow the steps below.

Enjoy your NOOK!

Connectivity

1. What is Wi-Fi®?

Wi-Fi is a generic term used to describe wireless Internet access. A Wi-Fi enabled device (such as a computer, laptop, mobile phone, or e-reader) can connect wirelessly to the Internet if it is in range of a wireless network. Wi-Fi enabled devices connect to the wireless network through access points (or hotspots). Access points can be public (such as at a library, restaurant or bookstore) or can be private (such as at home, work or school).

Public Wi-Fi access points usually don't require a password, but instead require a user to acknowledge terms of use.

Private Wi-Fi access points are usually password protected. Home Internet connection is usually provided by a cable or telephone company, and the wireless access is provided by a small device called a wireless router that is physically connected to the Internet.

2. Is my NOOK wireless?

Yes, your NOOK has built in Wi-Fi allowing you to connect wirelessly to any Wi-Fi hotspot. Connect to your home Wi-Fi, as well as your office, cafes, airports, hotels, and most other public hotspots. Your local Barnes & Noble bookstore offers free Wi-Fi that your NOOK will connect to automatically.

3. I forgot my Wi-Fi password. What should I do?

Ask your network administrator for help.

4. How do I know what my home network is?

If you have another Wi-Fi enabled device, try looking at its settings to determine which Wi-Fi access point it is connecting to. Once you've determined that, select the same wireless network name from the list provided by NOOK.

5. I don't see my home network on the list. What should I do?

It is possible that your network was set up as a hidden network. To add your network:

- Open the Settings app.
- Touch the Connections tab.
- In the left-hand column, select Wi-Fi if it is not already selected.
- Make sure that Wi-Fi is turned on.
- Touch "Add Wi-Fi network" (which appears at the bottom of the list of networks on the right).
- Fill in the information for your network and touch "Connect."

6. What is the lock symbol next to a Wi-Fi hotspot listed in available wireless networks?

The lock symbol represents a secure Wi-Fi network. Be sure to have the password and security information for any secure Wi-Fi network that you attempt to connect to.
