NOOK Video for Roku

1. How do I navigate the application using the Roku Remote?

The application can be easily navigated using the 5 way Roku Remote. Use the Up, Down, Left and Right buttons to navigate menus and the OK or Select button to choose the highlighted option on the screen. The Back button is marked with a single arrow pointing to the left and is used to stop a video or step backwards through your selections. Your Roku remote also contains a Rewind button (Double Triangles pointing to the left) a Pause/Play button (One Triangle pointing to the right beside two vertical lines) and a Fast Forward button (Double Triangles pointing to the right). You can use these buttons to easily seek through the video you are currently viewing. There are three speeds of Rewind and Fast Forward available so try pressing this button multiple times to speed things up! The Left and Right Buttons can be used to quickly replay the last 30 seconds or skip forward 30 seconds. To access additional options during playback press the * button on the remote. TIP - Roku has applications available for iOS and Android which make navigating the application even easier by allowing you to use your smartphones keyboard to enter text like login credentials or search queries!

2. How do I shop for Movies & TV Shows on my Roku?

You can purchase Movies & TV Shows to watch in the NOOK Video for Roku app by launching the shop on your NOOK HD or HD+ or by visiting Nook.com on your computer's web browser.

3. Where else can I watch NOOK Video titles I rent or purchase?

NOOK Video is available on NOOK HD and HD+ devices. Applications are being made for most major smartphone, tablet and connected device platforms. Visit the nook.com for the latest information on ways to enjoy NOOK Video.

4. Does NOOK Video support viewing of my UltraViolet™ titles?

Yes! Unlike many other video services, UltraViolet™ titles can be viewed FREE on hundreds of different smartphones, tablets, computers, game consoles, set top boxes, Blu-Ray players, and TVs. Thousands of DVDs, Blu-Ray discs and NOOK Video titles come with UltraViolet access.

5. How do I enable closed captioning in the application?

You can enable closed captioning to appear for compatible videos from within the application settings. The settings are indicated by the Gear icon located at the bottom of the Applications main page. Once you select settings with the OK or Select button you will see the option to turn captions On or Off depending on the current state (Default is Off)

NOOK Video for iPad® and iPhone®

1. What is NOOK Video?

NOOK Video is a streaming and download video service that allows rental and/or purchase of movies and TV shows. NOOK Video offers a wide variety of popular movies and your favorite TV shows.

2. How Does NOOK Video compare to Netflix or Hulu Plus?

NOOK Video allows both rental and purchase of individual videos, and allows you to stream or download videos for offline playback. No subscription is required. Netflix and Hulu Plus offer access to movies for a monthly subscription fee. Netflix and Hulu Plus also only allow content to be streamed - not downloaded.

3. What is the difference between Renting and Purchasing on NOOK Video?

A purchased movie or TV show can be watched as often as you like. When renting a movie, you have 30 days to start watching the movie. Once playback begins, you have 24 hours to finish watching. You may only download a rented movie to one device so make sure you start the download on the device you want to use to watch the movie offline.

Stream lets you watch instantly when you're connected to the Internet. It takes up no storage. Download lets you save a copy of the movie or TV show to watch on your device from anywhere, with no internet connection necessary. Videos are large files; download time may vary depending on file size.

7. Can I share a NOOK Video file with another NOOK user?

At this time sharing NOOK Video titles is unavailable.

8. Does NOOK Video work with HDMI out on my iPad, iPad mini, iPhone, or iPod touch?

Yes, NOOK Video supports HDMI out with the use of the Apple Digital AV Adapter (sold separately).

9. Does NOOK Video work with Apple TV Airplay?

No, NOOK Video does not support Airplay.

10. What is UltraViolet™?

UltraViolet™ is an all-new way to collect, access and enjoy your movies and TV shows in the cloud - brought to you by a growing list of companies building UltraViolet™ into their online stores, video apps, and devices.

11. Is UltraViolet available for NOOK Video for iPad and iPhone?

If you have an UltraViolet account linked to your NOOK account, you will be able to play UltraViolet titles that are in your NOOK Library. Note: Titles are subject to availability.

12. Can I start watching a video on one device and finish watching on another?

Yes, the NOOK Video service enables you to resume playback of any streaming movie or TV show on another NOOK Video application. NOTE: If you watch a downloaded movie or TV show your position will not be shared with other NOOK Video applications.

13. Are there streaming or download limitations with NOOK Video?

You can stream or download purchased content (different titles) from your NOOK Video collection on up to two NOOK Video applications simultaneously. You can download and watch or stream rented content (the same title) on one NOOK Video application at a time.

14. On how many devices can I access my NOOK Video content?

You can activate up to five devices on the same NOOK account. If you link your UltraViolet™ account you can enable up to 12 total UV devices, but no more than five NOOK Video devices at a time.

15. NOOK Video doesn't install on my iPad, iPad mini, iPhone, or iPod touch. What do I do?

NOOK Video for iPad and iPhone can only be installed on an iPad, iPad mini, iPhone (3GS/4/4S/5), or iPod touch (3rd generation and above) with iOS 5.0 or higher installed. If you have an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch with iOS 4.3 installed, you will need to update the iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch with iOS 5.0 or higher before downloading the NOOK Video app.

16. Can I use my existing NOOK account on NOOK Video?

Yes, you are able to use your existing NOOK account to sign-in and view your NOOK Video purchases.

17. How do I get back to my NOOK Video library when watching a movie or TV show?

To return to your library when watching a video, tap the middle of the screen to bring up the Video Tools. Tap the 'Done' button in the upper left corner return to your library.

18. My device is running low on storage. How can I remove movies & TV shows from my Library?

If you have a downloaded video you have purchased and would like to remove it from your device, just select the movie or TV show you want to remove and choose 'Remove from Device' from the Product Details page. Note: After deleting a title, you will still be able to see in your library, even though it's no longer taking up space in your device storage. This way, if you choose to stream or download this title again at a later date, you can do so, at no additional charge.

19. I'm having trouble downloading my movies & TV shows to my iPad, iPad mini, iPhone, or iPod Touch. What do I do?

In order to download movies to your device you must keep the NOOK Video application running and be connected to a Wi-Fi network for the duration of the download. It is recommended to attach your device to a power source during the download to maintain your battery life. You must also set auto-lock in your iOS General Settings to 'Never' to prevent the download from timing out and failing.

20. How do I enable closed captioning in the application?

You can enable closed captioning to appear during compatible videos by selecting the closed caption option in NOOK Video's application settings.

21. How can I stream a movie over my 3G/4G Connection?

The NOOK Video application will only allow you to download video for offline playback over your Wi-Fi network connection. You can stream video over either Wi-Fi or your carrier's wireless network. Since streaming video uses a large amount of data you may choose to disable streaming over your carrier's wireless network. To limit streaming playback to Wi-Fi only, tap on the application settings icon in the application and toggle Video Playback for 'Wi-Fi Only streaming' into the On position. Note: If you stream video over your carrier's network, you will be subject to any fees as outlined in your data plan.

22. Why am I unable to download video on my iPhone 3GS?

The NOOK Video application supports streaming only for iPhone 3GS devices. Download is disabled on these devices.

11. Can I start watching a video on one device and finish watching on another?

Yes, the NOOK Video service enables you to start watching a movie or TV show on one device and resume playback of the streaming video on another NOOK Video-compatible device. NOTE: If you watch a downloaded movie or TV show you cannot automatically resume playback from where you left off on another device.

12. Are there streaming or download limitations with NOOK Video?

With purchased content, you can stream up to two different titles simultaneously from your NOOK Video Library on separate devices, including the NOOK HD, NOOK HD+, via BN.com, or via the NOOK Video App for NOOK Tablet, NOOK Color, Android or other compatible devices. Purchased content can be downloaded from your NOOK Video Library on up to five NOOK Video authorized devices at a time. With rented content, you can stream the title on one device at a time including the NOOK HD, NOOK HD+, via BN.com, or via the NOOK Video App for NOOK Tablet, NOOK Color, Android or other compatible devices. A rented movie can only be downloaded to one device. Be sure to begin the download on the device you want to use to watch the movie offline.

13. On how many devices can I access my NOOK Video content?

To shop for movies and TV shows, open the NOOK Video App and tap on the shopping bag icon located on the navigation bar on the top of the screen. This will launch the web browser and open the NOOK Video page. Please note: You may be required to enter your NOOK account login and password on the BN.com website to complete the purchase. You can also purchase NOOK Video movies and TV shows by visiting BN.com using a laptop or desktop computer - please visit bn.com/nookvideo.

16. I've purchased some videos, but I don't see them in my NOOK Video App Library - how can I make them appear?

After purchasing or renting NOOK Video titles on BN.com, tap the Library sync icon (two arrows arranged in a circular shape) located in the top right part of the screen - if you are connected to the internet, your purchased and rented titles will begin to appear.

17. How do I get back to my NOOK Video library when watching a movie or TV show?

To return to your Library when watching a video, tap the middle of the screen to bring up the Video tools. Tap the back button to return to your Library.

18. My device is running low on storage. How can I remove movies and TV shows from my Library?

If you have downloaded a video and you would like to remove it from your device, select the movie or TV show you want to remove and choose the 'Remove from Device' option from the product details page. NOTE: Removing a title from your device will not permanently delete it from your NOOK Library. Your purchases are stored in the NOOK Cloud for future access. If you choose to stream or download this title again at a later date (before the rental period expires for rented content), you can do so at no additional charge.

19. Why does the movie or TV show poster art appear gray in my Library?

When the poster art appears in a gray color, this means that the device does not currently have an internet connection and the gray titles have not been downloaded for offline playback. If a device is not connected to the internet and the title poster art appears in color, this means the title has been downloaded and is available for playback without an internet connection.

20. How do I add more storage to my device for downloading movies and TV shows?

You can add more storage to some Android devices by inserting a microSD card. NOTE: If a microSD card is inserted and you start downloading a video, the title will automatically be downloaded to whichever storage location has the most space available - either the internal storage location or the microSD card. If you remove your microSD card from your device, video files on the card won't be accessible for offline playback. You will need to reinsert the card or re-download content to the onboard device storage to watch those videos offline.

21. How can I stream a movie over my 3G/4G Connection?

The NOOK Video App will only allow you to download video for offline playback over your Wi-Fi network connection. You can stream video over either Wi-Fi or your carrier's wireless network. Since streaming video uses a large amount of data, you may choose to disable streaming over your carrier's wireless network. To limit streaming playback to Wi-Fi only, tap on the application settings icon in the application and toggle Video Playback for 'Wi-Fi Only streaming' into the On position.
