Purpose: The purpose is to recreate the clinical setting emergency medicine physicians face on a daily basis; that is, to interpret a rhythm strip or ECG with very limited clinical information and to make sound, evidence-based decisions given limited information. This is on target with the job skills required of any emergency physician. This work serves the intended readers well.
Audience: It is written for intermediate and advanced-level practitioners, not for those individuals who are new to ECG interpretation. The authors are leading authorities in emergency medicine.
Features: The book is a compilation of rhythm strips and 12-lead ECGs, which help to focus emergency medicine physicians on honing their skills in ECG interpretation. The best feature of the book is the approach of placing readers in the exact clinical setting in which they find themselves on a daily basis. That is, a tech or nurse will place a rhythm strip or ECG in front of you and ask you to interpret it in the middle of your shift with very limited information. That is exactly what this book does. The strips and ECGs are followed by thoughtful and thorough discussions that focus on the key aspects needed to interpret the ECGs.
